Morse Code Works

Free · no account · works offline after the first visit

Morse Code Works is a web app. You can install it on a phone, tablet or computer from your browser, with no app store, and use it offline after the first visit. It includes the full translator, decoder, sound generator and trainer. It is free and has no account.

How to install the Morse code app

The steps depend on your device. The panel above shows the ones that match yours, and here is the full list.

    iPhone and iPad

    1. Open morsecodeworks.com in Safari.
    2. Tap the Share button (a square with an arrow).
    3. Choose Add to Home Screen, then tap Add.

    Android

    1. Open morsecodeworks.com in Chrome.
    2. Tap Install the app on this page, or open the menu (three dots) and choose Install app or Add to Home screen.

    Windows, Mac and Linux

    1. Open morsecodeworks.com in Chrome or Edge.
    2. Click Install the app on this page, or the install icon at the right of the address bar.
    3. In Safari on a Mac, choose File then Add to Dock.

Firefox on desktop does not install web apps, but you can still bookmark the site and use it normally.

    What you get

    • The Morse code translator in both directions, with sound and light.
    • The decoder, sound generator, audio decoder, tapper and trainer.
    • Offline use. After the first visit, the translator and any pages you have opened keep working without a connection.
    • No account, no install size worth worrying about, and no tracking of what you type. Messages are translated on your device.

Why a web app instead of a store app

A Morse code translator does not need anything a browser cannot already do: it plays sounds, draws on the screen and listens to a microphone. A web app has some real advantages for something this small.

    • It is the same on every device, so there is nothing to keep updated or to buy again for a new phone.
    • You do not have to give an app store your account to try it.
    • Updates arrive by themselves.

The downside is that there is no listing in the App Store or Google Play, so searching those stores will not find it. Installing from this page puts the same icon on your home screen as any other app.

Other ways to use Morse code on a phone

    • Keyboard. Some phone keyboards include a Morse code input mode, designed mainly as an accessibility feature so people can type by tapping short and long. Look in your keyboard's settings.
    • Flashlight. Many phones flash their light in Morse code from a simple app. For a signal, the tapper and light flasher shows a lamp on the screen, and our blink guide covers using a torch.
    • Code in your own project. If you want to build a translator, see the programming examples.

    Frequently asked questions

Is there a free Morse code translator app?

Yes. Install this site from your browser. It is free, has no account and no limit on messages.

Is there a Morse code translator for Android or iPhone?

This one works on both. On Android, use Chrome and choose Install app. On iPhone, use Safari and choose Add to Home Screen.

    Does the app work offline?

Yes, after the first visit. The translator, sound and trainer work without a connection. Pages you have not opened before need one.

Can I download the Morse code translator?

There is no separate file to download. Installing adds the site to your device as an app, which uses very little space.

    Is it safe?

The site runs in your browser's normal security sandbox. Nothing you type is sent to a server, and the microphone is used only on the audio decoder page when you press Record.

    Software, PC and keyboard

This is a Morse code translator application you install from your browser on phones and computers that support it, with nothing to download from a store. It is software that runs in your browser, so there is no separate PC version to install. To type Morse code with your keyboard, click into the text box on the translator and type; the Morse code appears as you type. The tapper lets you key Morse code with the space bar or by tapping.

Keyboard and software searches such as "Morse code translator application", "software" or "keyboard to Morse code" all lead here: the translator page is the app, and you can type on your computer keyboard or on a phone keyboard.
